Description: This is a vector polygon file that represents municipal boundaries in Monroe County, New York. A municipality is an administrative division in the state of New York that provides local government services. These boundary lines were developed from paper basemaps by scanning and digitizing. These boundaries are continually modified and updated if more accurate survey or boundary information is submitted to Monroe County Real Property Services or if municipalites exchange or annex land. This layer is also used by Monroe County Department of Environmental Services (DES) to create the "BASE_Towns_Villages" and "BASE_Towns_Villages_Line" feature classes, which are critical datasets used in nearly every basemap created by DES.

Copyright Text: This layer was created by the Monroe County Real Property Services (RPS) department. This layer was originally created in GIS in 2000 during a digital conversion project where original paper basemaps were scanned and digitized into ArcInfo coverage format. In 2005, this layer was converted to ESRI geodatabase format (2000, Monroe County Real Property Services, Rochester, NY).
