<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P STYLE="text-align:Justify;margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN>This is a vector polygon file that represents municipal boundaries in Monroe County, New York. A municipality is an administrative division in the state of New York that provides local government services. These boundary lines were developed from paper basemaps by scanning and digitizing. These boundaries are continually modified and updated if more accurate survey or boundary information is submitted to Monroe County Real Property Services or if municipalites exchange or annex land. This layer is also used by Monroe County Department of Environmental Services (DES) to create the "BASE_Towns_Villages" and "BASE_Towns_Villages_Line" feature classes, which are critical datasets used in nearly every basemap created by DES.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
This layer was created by the Monroe County Real Property Services (RPS) department. This layer was originally created in GIS in 2000 during a digital conversion project where original paper basemaps were scanned and digitized into ArcInfo coverage format. In 2005, this layer was converted to ESRI geodatabase format (2000, Monroe County Real Property Services, Rochester, NY).

Accuracy varies across the County is dependent upon the accuracy of the legal source material from which the layer was developed.
This layer was created by the Monroe County Real Property Services department in 2000. This layer was created in GIS during a digital conversion project where original paper basemaps were scanned and digitized into ArcInfo coverage format. CDM (Camp, Dresser, McKee) was contracted to complete the digital conversion project from 2000-2003. The original paper basemaps date back to 1935 and were a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. In 2005, Bergmann Associates was contracted to convert the ArcInfo coverages to ESRI geodatabase format. The data is currently stored and maintained in an ArcSDE geodatabase (2000, Monroe County Real Property Services, Rochester, NY).
Currently, the data is maintained and updated by digitizing features based on subdivision maps and recorded deeds. Standard ArcGIS editing functionality is used to maintain this data. Topology is also used to check and correct the geometry of features.
